چکیده

Lockin thermography is a well-suited method for the characterization of structures made of both metal and fiber reinforced plastic. In most cases, only phase images are analyzed, although the amplitude images might contain useful information as well. Thus, systematic studies of lockin thermography are presented, assessing amplitude and phase images for the detection and quantification of defects in isotropic (steel) and anisotropic (carbon fiber reinforced plastic) materials. Characterized defects are flat bottom holes with different diameters and various remaining wall thicknesses as well as crossed notches at different depths. The excitation frequency was varied while keeping the number of analyzed excitation periods nearly constant for each material. The data analysis was focused on the detectability of the defects both in the amplitude and phase images, including the determination of the signal-to-noise ratio and of the spatial resolution. As a result, the limits of defect detectability and spatial resolution are given for each material. OPEN ACCESS J. Imaging 2015, 1 221

Velocity Modeling in a Vertical Transversely Isotropic Medium Using Zelt Method

In the present paper, the Zelt algorithm has been extended for ray tracing through an anisotropic model. In anisotropic media, the direction of the propagated energy generally differs from that of the plane-wave propagation. This makes velocity values to be varied in different directions. Therefore, velocity modeling in such media is completely different from that in an isotropic media. The vel...

Lockin - Thermography : Principles , NDE - applications , and trends

A review is given about Lockin-Thermography, about its photoacoustic and photothermal roots, about the principle and modern applications for nondestructive testing using different kinds of options. 1. What is Lockin-Thermography? As Lockin-Thermography is based on thermal waves, a short excursion to this kind of waves and some remarks on the way they were used seems to be appropriate. Some indi...

DETECTING DEFECTS in REINFORCED CONCRETE USING the METHOD of INFRARED THERMOGRAPHY

This paper presents a method for detecting defects in reinforced concrete structures by using the method of active infrared (IR) thermography. Non-destructive testing using infrared (IR) thermography consists of thermal stimulation of the object of interest and monitoring of the surface temperature variation during the transient cooling or heating process. The paper includes short descriptions ...
